KROC CENTER MISSION
In keeping with the mission of The Salvation Army, the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center provides facilities, programs and services that encourage positive, life-changing experiences for children and adults, strengthen families, and enrich the lives of seniors.
SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of the members when they are in or around the pools and to respond to emergency situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Recognize and respond quickly and effectively in emergencies.
- Preventing emergency situations.
- Eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.
- Enforce the facility policies, rules and regulations.
- Maintain a professional and positive rapport with the members.
- Complete chemical records, accident and incident reports.
- Inform the Director of situations that need attention (emergencies, closings, accidents, behavioral situations requiring notification of law enforcement personnel and property issues).
- Exercise regularly to maintain current certifications.
- Attend mandatory meetings and in-service training.
- Always wear a clean uniform while on duty. (This includes a whistle)
- Neverleave the pool unattended.
- Notify supervisor and find a replacement of an assigned duty in advance of leave.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Other duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Cleaning the pools.
- Cleaning the deck area.
- Overseeing/cleaning the Aquatic locker-rooms.
- Checking chemicals and equipment.
- Fosters a positive working relationship with all departments, and outside agencies and vendors.
- Demonstrates a high level responsiveness for both internal and external customers and provides exceptional guest service and follow up.
- Consistently provides accurate updates and feedback to direct manager
- Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
· Interact professionally in all contact, as required, with the public, business community, and Salvation Army Officers and staff.
· Primary work schedule is Sunday-Saturday: mornings, afternoons or evenings.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Have the ability to work with guests and staff in a capacity of leadership and counseling including but not limited to:
- Ability to relate positively and compassionately to people of all ages.
- Sensitivity to participants’ individual needs.

- Dependability.
- Ability to handle security and crisis situations, calmly.
- Ability to seek supervision and use it consistently.
- Ability to direct staff and participants of varying educational and cultural backgrounds.
- Complete the standard Safe From Harm Training course as prescribed by The Salvation Army.
- Clear Background check.
- Must fully support the mission of the Salvation Army.
- Current certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
- Ability to work on one’s own, work independently and as part of a team.
- Read, write and speak the English language.
- Thorough knowledge and application of life-guarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
- Leadership, public relations and decision-making skills.
- An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Experiences in similar responsibilities.

- Have the ability to be flexible, think independently and creatively in managing and problem-solving when there is no firm guideline or policy in place.
- Must have an outgoing personality, excellent communication skills to communicate and coordinate efforts with Kroc Center personnel and the general public.
- Possess customer services skills to include complaint resolution principles, practices, and procedures.
- Must have strong attention to detail and organization.
- Must be available to work weeknights, weekends and possible holidays.
