Job Purpose:
To provide childcare services in order to allow parents or guardians of children with severe emotional disturbances temporary “Respite” from usual parenting responsibilities.
Essential Job Duties:
Direct Service Delivery
• Provide direct services to children with emotional & behavioral problems during the parents/guardian’s temporary absence/respite.
• Establish and maintain a professional relationship with the client/family, promoting client dignity, self-respect and independence.
• Supervise and manage behaviors of children, ages 4-18 from 3 to 12 hours at a time.
• Provide transportation if necessary, prepare and supervise meals, bedtime routine, etc.
• Monitor/administrator medication in the absence of the parent/guardian per Doctor’s orders and instructions of the parent/guardian.
• Work in concert with the stated goals and guidelines as determined by the parent/guardian, Program Manager and client/child.
Record Keeping
• Maintain ongoing records/documentation of all direct services,.
• Complete service plan updates every 90 days to assure quality and appropriate delivery of respite services.
Program Growth & Development
• Participate in program supervision and ongoing training activities for the purpose of professional growth and assurance of quality respite care.
• Attend required pre and in-service training.
• Through reading, workshops, videotape presentations and case consultations, work to build respite skills to meet program expectations and provide the highest quality services.
Professionalism and Confidentiality
• Keep all client names, information and other Agency business confidential.
• Guard client confidentiality in waiting areas, during phone contact and in the handling of records.
Interpersonal Relationships
• Maintain a positive, respectful demeanor on all contacts with staff and the public.
• Seek needed guidance in handling difficult client situations and establishing priorities for the job.
• Work to build positive, productive relationships with other staff.
• Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
• High school diploma required.
• Must be 21 years old.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Personal convictions that are compatible with the philosophy and goals of the Agency.
• Demonstrated understanding of and ability to work with person of diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Valid driver’s license, proof of liability insurance and ability to drive for Agency business (through compliant Motor Vehicle Record check).
